KALALAU
Tourist doing OK after Kalalau air evacuation

A 29-year-old male visitor was airlifted out of remote Kalalau Valley yesterday afternoon after suffering minor injuries.

The man was taken to Kaua'i Veterans Memorial Hospital, then transferred to Wilcox Hospital in Lihu'e, where he was listed in good condition, Kaua'i County spokeswoman Mary Daubert said in a news release.

Police received a call about 12:15 p.m., after six people in the valley flagged down a tour helicopter and pointed to a large SOS written in beach sand.

Kaua'i County's Air-1 rescue helicopter, with two rescue specialists aboard, responded to the call.
