Big Island junior series kicks off

The 14-under Big Island Junior Tour Series event, the first stop on this year's JTS series, will be played this weekend at Hilo Muni. Tee times begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. Sunday.

Age groups run from 7-8 to 13-14. Juniors play tees that range from 4,304 yards to 6,325 yards.

Last year's champions were Taisei Negishi and Mari Camacho (10-under), Matthew Camacho and Alexandra Kaui (11-12) and Aaron Kunitomo and Marissa Chow (13-14).

BENEFIT

PRO-AM RAISED $13,000 FOR MILITARY

The third annual Soldier/Family Benefit Pro-Am, a partnership of the LPGA and the Hawai'i Chapter of the Association of the United States Army, raised some $13,000 earlier this month. Tour members Kate Golden and Amy Read organized the event at Leilehua Golf Course.

Charities that benefit include the Fisher House at Tripler Army Medical Center, which provides a place for soldiers and their families while under medical treatment and care, and the Family Readiness Group from the redeploying 2nd Brigade.

LPGA players who participated included Michelle McGann, Maggie Will, Jackie Gallagher-Smith, Jean Bartholemew, Meredith Duncan and Stephanie Louden.

NOTES

Monday's "Golf Hawai'i" broadcast will premier the final show of the season, which features Mercedes-Benz Championship winner Geoff Ogilvy of Australia. The show debuts at 2:30 p.m. Monday on The Golf Channel. It repeats at 9:30 p.m. Monday, 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, 10 a.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. next Sunday. Other segments feature Mauna Kea Resort and "Mark's View" is about Tiger Woods.
