Olympics: Otters and lizards and snakes! London to feature wildlife in park

Associated Press

LONDON — London's wildlife is getting an Olympic boost.

Organizers of the 2012 Summer Games said Friday that a more than 100-acre wildlife area would be included in the Olympic Park in Stratford, East London, creating a new habitat for otters, amphibians and other species.

The area will include four sites for lizards, ponds to allow amphibians to breed and wetlands where grass snakes can lay eggs.

"The creation of green oases in the Olympic Park will be a fantastic legacy for Londoners to enjoy for many years to come," London Mayor Boris Johnson said. "These areas are being carefully designed to provide ideal wildlife havens so that flora and fauna can thrive."
