Weather service issues high-wind advisory for Oahu

Advertiser Staff

The National Weather Service has issued a high-wind advisory for Honolulu that will be in effect until 6 p.m. tomorrow.

Strong northeast winds of 15 mph to 30 mph with gusts of 50 mph are forecast through tomorrow.

The strongest winds can be expected in valleys, over ridges and downslope areas on the southwest and leeward portions of Oahu.

When a high-wind advisory is in effect you should secure any loose objects outdoors.

In addition, residents should consider:

— Trimming dead wood and weak overhanging branches from trees.

— Securing lawn furniture, trash cans and other objects that could become projectiles.

People should also keep flashlights, fresh batteries at a battery-operated radio at hand in the event of power loss.
