President-elect Barack Obama's charter flight from Honolulu landed at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport at 12:33 a.m. CST.

The nearly eight-hour flight aboard a United Airlines Boeing 767 was largely quiet. Obama visited the press cabin just to wish journalists a happy new year. He exchanged plesantries and chatted about shave ice and basketball, but quickly returned to the front of the plane.

Obama, his wife, Michelle, and daughters Malia and Sasha exited the airplane in winter coats onto the cold, windy tarmac. Barack and Michelle Obama each carried their own bags down the staircase.

Obama and his family arrived at their home in

Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood at 1:28 a.m. CST. The

motorcade from O'Hare International Airport was smooth. Along the way, the

Obamas stopped a few blocks from their home to drop off Valerie Jarrett and

her daughter, who returned from Hawaii aboard the president-elect's

charter.
