Hawaii Golf notes

The inaugural Hawai'i Golf Ho'olaule'a Awards, "Celebrating Golf Excellence in the Islands," will be Jan. 16 at Hilton Hawaiian Village.

The dinner will recognize Hawai'i's top male and female golfers and industry leaders. Cost is $60 for adults, $45 for those 18 and under and $1,200 for a 10-seat sponsor table.

Registration deadline is Wednesday. It is available online (aloha.pga.com) or by calling 593-2230.

PREUS PLACES THIRD IN CANADA

Punahou eighth-grader Kalena Preus played up an age division (14-16) and took third place at the Canadian Junior Golf Association World Challenge, which ended Tuesday at Ginn Reunion Resort in Florida. Preus shot 74-76-72 to finish six shots behind winner Parker Page of Kentucky. There were 14 countries represented.

CAMPING AT ALA WAI, KUNIA

The First Tee of Hawai'i Winter Break Golf Camp will be Monday to Friday at Ala Wai Driving Range and Hawai'i Country Club (Kunia). Camps run from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and cost $40. NEW YEAR, NEW RATES AT KO'OLAU

Ko'olau Golf Club is offering new rates for the new year, including a $29 twilight rate daily after 1 p.m., and $20 after 3:30 p.m. Weekday rates for kama'aina and active U.S. military are $39 weekdays and $49 weekends and holidays. Guests on Emily T Gail Talks Golf Sunday on Big Island ESPN Radio AM850 Hilo and AM790 Kona will be Fred Shoemaker, Jo Hardy and Scott Head. Shoemaker is author of "Extraordinary Golf: The Art of the Possible," and "Extraordinary Putting: Transforming the Whole Game." He and Hardy will talk about their Extraordinary Golf Academy based in Carmel, Calif. Head, Director of Club Operations for Waikoloa Beach & Golf Resort and board member of the Aloha Section PGA, will talk about the recent Hawai'i Golf Industry conference.
