Lingle nominates prosecutor Rom Trader as a judge

Associated Press

Gov. Linda Lingle has nominated Deputy City Prosecutor Rom Trader to be a Honolulu Circuit Court judge.

Lingle chose Trader from a list of six candidates drawn up by the Judicial Selection Commission. Today's nomination is subject to state Senate approval.

Lingle says Trader is "highly qualified" to serve on the bench after 20 years as a prosecutor.

She says he has earned the respect of colleagues, including prosecutors and defense attorneys, for his integrity, fairness and judgment.

Trader received his bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Hawaii.

He also has served as an adjunct professor at UH's William S. Richardson School of Law, as well as a faculty member for the Hawaii State Bar Association Trial Academy.
