Bicyclist becomes year's 4th traffic fatality in collision near Turtle Bay

Advertiser Staff

A 50-year-old man died from injuries he sustained after his bicycle collided with a car on Kamehameha Highway near the Turtle Bay Resort last night, police said.

He was the fourth fatality of the year. Two of the other deaths, which occurred separately on New Year's Day, involved motorcyclists.

Police traffic investigators said the bicyclist was traveling north in the south-bound lane when he collided with a 1993 Buick Century head-on at about 7 p.m. Neither the driver of the Buick nor his passenger was injured.

The bicyclist was taken to The Queen's Medical Center where he died at around 9:30 p.m.

The accident occurred about one mile north of Kaunala Street. Traffic was blocked off in both directions until about 10 p.m.
