City Council committees scaled back from 8 to 6

The number of Honolulu City Council Committees has been reduced from eight to six and new chairmen have been appoint to some of the committees, Council Chairman Todd Apo has announced.

Changes in chairmanships include Nestor Garcia, who will chair the Budget Committee; Gary Okino who will chair the Transportation and Planning Committee; Charles Djou who will chair the Executive Matters and Legal Affairs Committee and newly elected Councilman Duke Bainum who will chair the Public Infrastructure Committee, which will handle matters related to wastewater and solid waste.

Two former committees, Intergovernmental Affairs and Affordable Housing, have been eliminated, Apo announced.
