The University of Hawai'i is paying out $104,733 in bonuses to its football coaches for the team's appearance in the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl, officials said.

Under the terms of head coach Greg McMackin's contract, he receives a $20,000 bonus for any appearance by his team in a non-Bowl Championship Series game. McMackin would have qualified for an additional $10,000 had UH won the game.

Notre Dame won the Christmas Eve game, 49-21.

McMackin would qualify for a $50,000 bonus if the Warriors play in a BCS game.

Meanwhile, Board of Regents policy says, the team's nine full-time assistant coaches "may receive as supplemental compensation up to a maximum amount computed by dividing the combined monthly salary of all assistant(s) by the total number of assistant coaches."

The nine assistants earn a total of $987,936 in base salary, according to UH. Total bonuses for assistants will come to $84,263, or $9,148 per coach, according to the school.

For the previous season's appearance in the Sugar Bowl, UH coaches received $135,836 in bonuses, led by then-head coach June Jones, who qualified for approximately $80,000, UH officials said.

Athletic director Jim Donovan said coaches' bonuses come out of UH's $400,000 bowl appearance fee, as apportioned by the Western Athletic Conference. Donovan's contract provides for a $7,500 bonus by UH's competition in a bowl game.

Once all the bills are in, Donovan estimated the athletic department expects to turn a "$20,000 to $40,000" profit on the team's Hawai'i Bowl appearance.
