Program aims to recycle Hawaii phone books

Advertiser Staff

Hawaiian Telcom Yellow Pages is partnering with a locally owned recycler, Island Shell LLC, to convert outdated directories into oil absorbent materials, Green Lava Hydro-Mulch or InCide Pest Control Cellulose Insulation – products that will be used locally.

Hawaiian Telcom is also partnering with other local businesses, nonprofit organizations and shopping malls to provide four staffed drop-off locations where the public can recycle outdated telephone directories.

The recycling program starts Friday and ends Feb. 8. Recycling drop-off locations, which are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday, include:

  • Ward Warehouse, next to the tented trolley stop on Auahi Street.

  • Kahala Mall, in the Macy's Men's Store parking lot.

  • Windward Mall, in the Macy's parking lot, at the corner of Kamehameha Highway and Ha'iku Road.

  • Waikele Premium Outlets, in the center courtyard area.

Hawaiian Telcom Yellow Pages has partnered with The Lokahi Giving Project to help staff the drop-off locations with volunteers as well as All Rolloff Services for the containers and hauling services.

Delivery of the new 2009 Hawaiian Telcom Yellow Pages O'ahu directories began in early December 2008 and will continue through January.

Hawaiian Telcom Yellow Pages also offers online white and yellow pages on its Web site. More information on the recycling program can be found at www.HTYellowPages.com.
