Weather: Kona winds to kick in today

Advertiser Staff

Expect winds to lighten, and shift to the southeast and south through Saturday as a cold front approaches the islands from the northwest, the National Weather Service said

.

The lighter winds will allow clouds and a few showers to form over the interior of the islands this afternoon, forecasters said.

The cold front is expected to move quickly through the islands Saturday night and Sunday, bringing briefly heavy rainfall and the chance for thunderstorms. While northwest winds will follow directly behind the front, westerly winds will prevail for most of next week.
