Advertiser Staff

Emergency Medical Services responded to a near drowning in the pool at the Aqua Island Colony Hotel at 445 Seaside Ave. in Waikiki this afternoon, a spokesman reported.

A male who appears to be in his 50s was taken to a local area hospital in critical condition, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city's Emergency Services Department.

Cheplic said the call came in at 5:54 p.m.

He said paramedics were able to treat and stabilize the man at the scene before taking him to the hospital.
