High surf advisory issued for Sunday

Advertiser Staff

Beginning at 4 a.m. Sunday, a high surf advisory will be in effect for the north- and west-facing shores on Kaua'i and O'ahu, and north-facing shores on Moloka'i and Maui

The advisory will remain in effect through 6 p.m. Tuesday, the National Weather Service said.

Surf faces will rise from 12 to 15 feet along north- and west-facing shores of Kaua'i early Sunday and spread to Maui by Sunday afternoon.

Surf will continue to rise to from 15 to 20 feet Sunday night and Monday, after which it will gradually subside Monday night and Tuesday, the weather service said. High surf is expected to return by the end of next week.

"There's a large swell forecast to come in on Thursday and Friday that will probably be a surf warning event," said Jeff Powell, lead forecaster in Honolulu.
