Final round of Mercedes-Benz golf underway after rain delay at Kapalua

Advertiser Staff

The final round of the PGA Tour's Mercedes-Benz Championship is underway after a rain delay at Kapalua's Plantation Course on Maui.

Geoff Ogilvy entered the final day with a six-stroke lead in the tournament featuring 33 Tour event winners from 2008.

The PGA originally moved up the first tee times to 8 a.m. because of thunderstorms forecast for later this afternoon. But heavy rains forced this morning's delay, with the first golfers teeing off at 10:15 a.m. from the first and 10th tees.

A handful of players waited out the delay in the locker room, eating breakfast, reading the local newspapers and watching the NFL playoff game between the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles, according to the PGA.

The leaders, including Ogilvy, are expected to tee off at about 11:15 a.m.

The final round will be shown on the Golf Channel, starting at 1 p.m.
