Boy, 14, critical after being hit by car in Maili

Advertiser Staff

A 14-year-old Wai'anae boy was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition after he was struck last night by a car on Farrington Highway near Kimo Street in Ma'ili, police said.

Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department, said paramedics were sent to the area at 10:19 p.m. and found the boy who appeared to have been hit by a vehicle traveling at a moderate speed.

Police said the boy was struck by a Wai'anae-bound car being driven by a 30-year-old Wai'anae woman who was not injured in the incident.

The use of alcohol or drugs and speeding do not appear to be factors in the case, police said.

They are investigating what the boy was doing on the busy highway outside a crosswalk when he was hit.
