HAWAI'I NURSES ASSOCIATION

The Hawai'i Nurses Association has named Patt Gibbs as executive director. Gibbs is a labor attorney and former union president.

Founding president and chief officer of the Association of Professional Flight Attendants, she successfully represented American Airlines' flight attendants as counsel during arbitration that resulted in a record-setting $10 million award of back pay.

HNA represents 4,000 registered nurses and healthcare providers in Hawai'i.

HAWAIIAN BUILDING MAINTENANCE

Karl Fujii has been promoted to executive vice president at Hawaiian Building Maintenance, the largest facilities services company in Hawai'i. Fujii joined the company as comptroller and director of business development in 1998.

FIRST INSURANCE

DARREN OKIHARA has joined First Insurance Company of Hawaii as vice president of commercial underwriting. He will be responsible for generating new business and maintaining relationships with the firm's agency partners.

ALOHACARE

AlohaCare, Hawai'i's third-largest health plan, has announced its board of directors and officers.

They are: president, Dana Alonzo-Howeth, executive director of the Community Clinic of Maui; vice president, David Bess, a professor at the University of Hawai'i's Shidler College of Business; vice president, Richard Bettini, chief executive officer of the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center; secretary, Phil Kinnicutt, a board member at the Waikiki Health Center; treasurer, Emmanuel Kintu, executive director of the Kalihi Palama Health Center.

Board members: Susan Hunt, executive director of the Hamakua Health Center; May Akamine, executive director of the Waimanalo Health Center; Kathy Coughlin, manager of Queen Emma Clinics; Dawn Hofmann, vice president of First Hawaiian Bank; Dr. David Derauf, executive director of Kokua Kalihi Valley; Russell Saito, a partner in Devens, Nakano, Saito, Lee, Wong & Ching; Martha Smith, chief operating officer at Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women and Children; Roy Katsuda, executive director of Hale Maha'olu; and Paul Strauss, chief executive officer of Bay Clinic Inc.
