Man asked to buy drugs before reportedly robbed

Two unidentified men reportedly assaulted and robbed a man yesterday at Kalakaua Park in Hilo.

Police said the incident occurred about 2:30 a.m. when the victim was approached by a man who asked him if he wanted to buy marijuana. The second assailant struck the victim on the head with a metal object and stole cash from him.

The victim was treated at Hilo Medical Center and released.

One of the robbers, who fled on foot, is described as a Caucasian man in his 20s, approximately 5 feet 7 and 170 pounds. He had short hair and was wearing a black hat and dark shirt. The second man, who left on a bicycle, was described as a Polynesian male in his 20s, about 5 feet 5 with short, curly black hair.
