UH women fizzle at Boise State

The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team lost, 70-61, at Boise State yesterday and is still searching for its first Western Athletic Conference win after its three-game conference road trip.

Hawai'i led 34-27 at intermission, but the Broncos went on an 18-4 run to take their first lead, 41-40, five minutes into the half.

Boise State increased its lead to 65-51 with 5:28 remaining.

Keisha Kanekoa had 18 points for Hawai'i (3-13, 0-3). Tara Hittle recorded her first double-double of the year with 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Rainbows, while Megan Tinnin and Dita Liepkalne had 11 points each.

Heather Pilcher had 16 points for Boise State (9-8, 2-1).

TOP 25 MEN

No. 6 Oklahoma 78, No. 11 Texas 63: Blake Griffin racked up his 14th double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the host Sooners (16-1, 2-0 Big 12) over the Longhorns (12-4, 1-1), snapping a six-game losing streak to Texas.

Damion James brought Texas within 54-50 with a 3-pointer with 11:13 to play, but the Longhorns then went 6 1/2 minutes without scoring.

A.J. Abrams led Texas with 22 points on 8-for-26 shooting, and James scored 12.

No. 20 Louisville 87, No. 12 Notre Dame 73, OT: Terrence Williams had 24 points, 16 rebounds and eight assists for the host Cardinals (12-3, 3-0 Big East), who won their fourth straight by beating the Irish (12-4, 3-2).

Freshman Samardo Samuels added 18 points, six rebounds and four blocks for Louisville.

Notre Dame's Luke Harangody had 28 points and 13 rebounds.

WAC MEN

CS Bakersfield 61, San Jose State 55: Alex Johnson scored 13 points and hit a trio of timely 3-pointers to lead the host Roadrunners (5-12) past the Spartans (7-8) of the Western Athletic Conference.

Bakersfield led by 12 at halftime and withstood a late run from San Jose State, which scored only five first-half field goals but shot 52 percent in the second half.

DaShawn Wright led San Jose State (7-8) with 17 points.

TOP 25 WOMEN

No. 4 Duke 68, No. 12 Maryland 65: Jasmine Thomas scored 15 points and hit four late free throws to help the host Blue Devils (14-1, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) beat the Terps (13-3, 1-1) for their 12th straight victory.

Marissa Coleman scored 14 points for Maryland.

No. 15 Ohio State 67, Illinois 35: Jantel Lavender had 14 points and 14 rebounds, and Star Allen added 13 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Buckeyes (14-2, 5-0 Big Ten) to a rout of the host Illini (5-13, 0-6).

Ashlee Trebilcock scored 11 points for Ohio State.

No. 24 Georgia Tech 68, Miami 50: Jacqua Williams and Alex Montgomery each scored 18 points to lead the Yellow Jackets (13-3, 1-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) over the host Hurricanes (10-7, 0-3).

Miami's Diane Barnes scored 11 points.
