A Schofield Barracks soldier died Sunday from a noncombat-related incident in Samarra, Iraq, the Pentagon said yesterday.

Pvt. Sean P. McCune, 20, of Euless, Texas, was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation, military officials said. McCune joined the Army in April 2008 and was assigned to Schofield Barracks in August, officials said.

He is the second Schofield soldier to die on a yearlong deployment that began late last year. Pfc. Christopher W. Lotter, 20, died New Year's Eve in Iraq after he was shot in Tikrit.
