WAI'ANAE
Kolekole Pass re-opens for military commuters

The Navy partially reopened the Kolekole Pass road to military ID holders on Monday after rainstorms Dec. 11 covered the Wai'anae Range pass with rocks and eroded a hillside below the road, prompting the route's closure.

A single lane will be open for morning commuters between 7 a.m. and noon for traffic from the Wai'anae Coast to Schofield Barracks, and from noon to 5:30 p.m. for traffic from Schofield Barracks to Wai'anae for the afternoon commute, the Navy said.

The pass is not open to the public. The one-way traffic route will be open Monday through Friday for military ID holders, but closed on weekends.

The Kolekole Pass road was opened to some traffic on Friday, but Monday was its first day for commuters, officials said.

The Navy previously said a contractor would be hired to repair the road and return it to two-way traffic.
