Honolulu pro Tadd Fujikawa opened with a 1-over-par 71 today in the opening round of the Sony Open in Hawai'i at Waialae Country Club.

Fujikawa, playing in his third consecutive Sony Open, opened with a double-bogey on the par-4 No. 1 in windy conditions, but drew to even-par with birdies on the par-3 No. 4 and par-4 No. 10. He bogeyed the par-3 No. 17.

He is one of five players with Hawai'i ties in the tournament.

Iolani freshman Lorens Chan got off to a rough start with a bogey on the par-4 No. 1, but finished with a respectable 72. He bogeyed the par-4 No. 6, but birdied the par-3 No. 7 before bogeying the par-4 No. 8. He went to 3 over with a bogey on the par-4 No. 12, but got a shot back with a birdie on the par-4 No. 15.

Honolulu's Parker McLachlin and Kane'ohe's Dean Wilson, PGA Tour members, shot 3-over-par 73s today.

The early crowd mostly followed McLachlin, Fujikawa and Chan. Pro John Lynch shot a 78.

McLachlin started on the back nine and made the turn at 2 over with bogeys at Nos. 12 and 13, both par-4s. He opened with bogeys on Nos. 1 and 2, both par-4s, before his only birdie of the round on the par-3 No. 7. He bogeyed the par-4 No. 8 to back to 4 over. He finished with a birdie on the par-5 No. 9.

Wilson started with three bogeys on the back nine and went to 4 over with a bogey on No. 1. He birdied No. 4, but bogeyed No. 8 before finishing with a birdie on No. 9.
