Gov. Linda Lingle released $500,000 for capital improvements to the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. The money is expected to attract matching gifts and will trigger the start of a $12.8 million project that includes constructing a pavilion with a glass and steel pyramid roof over the Yokouchi Founders' Court and the amphitheater stage.

Other work will include an upgraded food and beverage service area and preparation kitchen, a 3,500-square-foot event space overlooking Founders' Court, increased parking, and maintenance and storage space.
