1,395 Big Island motorists arrested for DUI in 2008
Big Island police arrested 1,395 motorists for drunken driving during 2008, a slight decrease from the 1,413 DUI arrests in 2007.
There were 1,716 major traffic accidents in Hawai'i County in 2008, compared with 2,171 in 2007, a decrease of 21 percent, police said.
There were 27 traffic fatalities in 2008 compared with 37 the previous year, a decrease of 27 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
