The University of Hawai'i-Manoa Historic Costume Collection and Kaka'ako gift and jewelry boutique Rabbitt in Paradise present "Visual Delights," a show of vintage garments, art, Ecolicious art totes and jewelry. Garments dating from the 1920s to the 1980s will be on display from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, from tomorrow through Feb. 14, in the lobby gallery of Pauahi Tower, 1001 Bishop St. The garments will be complemented with the jewelry of C.J. Rabbitt and Jack Kravitz. An opening reception will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Jan. 22.

The UH Costume Collection consists of an astounding 18,000 garments, textiles and related artifacts. The collection is housed in the Apparel Product Design and Merchandising department in Miller Hall. With pieces dating back to 1850, deterioration will take place unless these treasures can be stored properly. Fundraising activities seek to supply acid-free paper and boxes, a digital camera for documentation, repair supplies, mannequins, a computer and scanner.

THE ULTIMATE SHOPPING EXPERIENCE

Calling all shopaholics! Watermark Publishing, Fashionista's Market, Honolulu Design Center and Honolulu Magazine are partnering up to offer a day of shopping, seminars and prizes.

From 9 to 10 a.m. Jan. 24, in the Honolulu Design Center, it's a VIP-only shopping hour. The $25 ticket includes a copy of Kathryn Drury Wagner's book, "The Ultimate Guide to Shopping on O'ahu" and a goodie bag. The event, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., is free and open to the public.

COOKIE COUTURE OPENS

The mother-daughter team of Christina and Darcy Cook just opened Cookie Couture, a place for fun, flirty and affordable women's wear. With dress prices averaging $44, and nothing priced at more than $100, it's clearly fashionista friendly.

The retail-savvy duo makes monthly treks to L.A. to buy hip and often unheard-of-here designers. Mother and daughter both have extensive retail experience. Mom is the co-founder of Bebe and Bebe Sport and during the '90s she owned 17 stores. Christina, 24, has been working in retail since her teen years. She buys for customers in her age range, while mom goes to market with the 50-plus woman in mind.

Cookie Couture is located in Koko Marina Shopping Center, in the space formerly occupied by Koko Cabana. Call 396-2665.

SEEKING NOMINATIONS

Does someone in your life deserve a day of pampering? Send us an e-mail and nominate her or him for our gentle makeover. The Advertiser has partnered with several salons and day spas to offer a day of relaxation, renewal and indulgence to three deserving Islanders. We'll make sure they're ready for a fabulous night out on Feb. 14.

To nominate someone, e-mail reasons why they are most deserving to paularath@aol.com. Your nominee must be available to meet with the salon and spa prior to their appointments and spend much of Valentine's Day being spoiled. Deadline for nominations: Jan. 23.

WE BLOG FOR YOU

Stephanie Matsumoto is a hard-working attorney, but in her free time, she's a girl about town who shares her fashion insights on our Hawaii's Fashion Forum blog. There you'll find the latest Island fashion news, sales and bargains, views and clues at http://hawaiisfashionforum.honadvblogs.com. We'll give you practical news from Paula Rath as well as photos of style events all around town.

ON OUR RADAR

Shells are going to be a significant trend this spring and summer. We saw them on the runways in a variety of forms, on clothing, shoes and accessories. The little gifts from the sea offer a hint of hippie chic. And of course they're especially appropriate for our Island style.

So imagine how excited I was to find some adorable shell bracelets from Indonesia for under $10 at Place, an atelier by Mary Philpotts, at 40 S. School St., phone 275-3075, www.placehawaii.com. There are several distinct shell shapes. I recommend stacking them, at least three bracelets at a time. Even worn this way, it's still a fab look for under $30.
