NCAA president Brand has pancreatic cancer

By JOSEPH WHITE
AP Sports Writer

OXON HILL, Md. — NCAA president Myles Brand is being treated for pancreatic cancer, and he says the long-term prognosis is "not good."

Brand issued a statement today, the last day of the NCAA Convention. Brand was not able to attend the convention because of his condition.

The NCAA announced last week that its 66-year-old president was undergoing treatment, but the nature of the illness was not revealed until Saturday.

Brand said in his statement that he was receiving excellent care and that he should know if the treatment is successful in the "next several months."
