BYUH sweeps in PacWest basketball

Reserve Tsung-Hsien Chang scored a game-high 20 points and Brigham Young-Hawai'i shot 63.8 percent from the field en route to a 104-67 victory over Notre Dame de Namur in a Pacific West Conference men's basketball game at Cannon Activities Center in La'ie.

Lucas Alves added 18 points, Trenson Akana had 13, and Virgil Buensuceso and Nathan Sims each added 12 for the Seasiders (11-1, 4-0), who made 37 of 58 field-goal attempts.

Bennie Murray and Andre Hayes each scored 12 points for the Argonauts (4-12, 0-6).

Elsewhere in the PacWest:

  • Latoya Wily had 24 points and 16 rebounds as BYUH beat Notre Dame de Namur, 69-61, in a women's game at Cannon Activities Center in La'ie.

    Richelle Fenenbock added 18 points for the Seasiders (6-7 and 2-2). Britni Rathke had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Argonauts (5-12, 2-4).

  • Ryan Sanchez had 27 points and nine rebounds as Dixie State pulled away late to beat visiting Hawai'i-Hilo, 87-78, in a men's game at St. George, Utah.

    Dalton Groskreutz added 14 points and Adam Roos sank five free throws to help the Rebels (7-6, 2-0) outscore the Vulcans (8-6, 2-2) 11-2 in the final 1 minute, 27 seconds. John Smith scored 23 points and Bryan Ngo 20 for Hilo.

  • Deney Phommabout hit six 3-pointers and scored 24 points as Dixie State beat Hawai'i-Hilo, 87-66, in a women's game at St. George, Utah.

    Shanae Vaifanua added 21 points for the Rebels (8-5, 2-0). Eileen Pineda led the Vulcans (7-4, 2-2) with 23 points.

    COHEN, FRIESEN WIN

    Douglas Cohen won two events and Emma Friesen won one as the University of Hawai'i men's and women's diving teams completed the Rainbow Diving Invitational yesterday at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Center.

    Cohen, a freshman from Centennial, Colo., won the platform event with a score of 330.95 and the 3-meter with 301.75. He also placed second in the 1-meter with 315.50.

    Friesen, a junior from North Vancouver, B.C., won the 1-meter event with 300.55. UH freshman Daniella Nero placed second in both the 1-meter with 266.70 and 3-meter with 286.25.
