Weather: Cool today, but plenty of sun expected

It was another cool morning today, with the mercury dipping below 60 degrees in many communities across the state including Kalaeloa, Kaunakakai, Kahului, and Lanai City, the National Weather Service said.

It was 61 degrees at 3 a.m. today at Honolulu International Airport.

A ridge of high pressure will provide light winds with afternoon sea breezes today, forecasters said.

A cold front is expected to reach Kauai by Tuesday morning, then rapidly push east of the Big Island by Wednesday afternoon.

Clouds and showers along the front will affect each island in turn Tuesday and Wednesday, along with fresh post-frontal northerly winds.

Trade winds will return to all of the main islands by late Wednesday and are expected to last into the weekend.

Some isolated showers located 50 miles north of Molokai and Oahu are moving slowly northwest, but no showers are falling over the islands at this time.

Here's a closer look at the next few days:

M.L.King Day: Sunny, with a high near 78. East wind at 7 mph becoming south.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 65. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 79. North wind around 5 mph.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 62. North wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 77. Northeast wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.

Wednesday Night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. East wind around 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
