Haleakala weather channel out of service today

Advertiser Staff

The National Weather Service has issued a special announcement, saying the NOAA weather radio transmitter atop Haleakala on Maui will likely be out of service today and Wednesday,

The transmitter serves the greater Maui County area and northern portions of the Big Island, including adjacent coastal waters.

The Haleakala transmitter broadcasts at 162.400 mhz.

Due to equipment relocation and maintenance work, it is likely that the NOAA weather radio channel and the associated emergency alert system messages will not be available today and tomorrow, the Weather Service said.

The channel will be taken out of service in order to upgrade the transmitter and relocate it in order to provide Maui County with a dedicated broadcast program, the National Weather Service said.
