Chinese junk open for tours at Ala Wai

Advertiser Staff

The Princess TaiPing, a working replica of a 14th-century Chinese warship, is offering free tours this weekend and next.

Walk-in visitors are welcome aboard from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and tomorrow, and next Friday through Sunday.

The 54-foot, 35-ton junk will be docked at the Ala Wai Boat Harbor for the next two weeks before returning home to Taiwan.

Capt. Nelson Liu and a crew of eight successfully navigated the ship, constructed in strict accordance with specifications found in texts dating back to the Ming Dynasty, from Taiwan to California over a span of 69 days late last year.
