Hawaii gasoline prices rise for second consecutive week

Hawai'i gasoline prices increased again in the past week, with the statewide average rising to $2.346 for a gallon of regular.

The AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report said statewide gasoline prices rose by 1 cent over the past week and that prices on O'ahu, Maui and the Big Island increased as well.

The gasoline prices have been creeping upward recently after a prolonged fall as crude oil prices dropped.

Hawai'i's prices peaked at $4.507 set in late July.

Hawai'i prices remain second-highest in the country behind Alaska. Hawai'i's average price is about 50 cents higher than the nationwide average of $1.850. Alaska's average price is $2.516.

The AAA also reported that:

  • Honolulu's average rose about 2 cents to $2.276.

  • Hilo's price increased 1 cent to $2.450.

  • Wailuku's average inched up by 1 cent to $2.496.

The price report is collected from fleet vehicle credit-card transactions and represents the combined averages of the last card swipe of Thursday. AAA does not survey Kaua'i prices.
