Kunia Road reopened after emergency repairs

The state Department of Transportation said today that Kunia Road has been reopened in both directions between Lyman Road and the entrance to Kunia Tunnel.

The half-mile stretch had been closed to traffic since Dec. 10 because of emergency roadwork to repair erosion caused by a broken water main beneath the road surface.

Contractor Goodfellow Brothers Inc. completed repairs at a cost of $1.3 million.

Work required excavation of the road surface and the eroded soil base, followed by the addition of about 4,000 cubic yards of replacement soil,
