Jazz in the afternoon at Iolani School

By Advertiser staff

Local radio disc jockey and jazz enthusiast James Harber will host "The Jazz Intersection at 'Iolani" at 'Iolani School.

The event, which is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Sunday Feb. 15 in the school's Seto Hall, is a mixed-media installation of music, art and dance with some learning — a history lesson on the creative writing heritage of African-Americans — thrown in for good measure.

The five-piece jazz outfit The Gabe Baltazar Quintet will perform and Harber himself will be on emcee duty.

Harber hosted a daily jazz radio show titled "The Jazz Intersection" on KUMU AM from 2001 to 2003. The show is now available as a podcast.

"The Jazz Intersection at Iolani" is free and open to the public.
