Police have charged a Kilauea man involved in a standoff at his home Monday with second-degree arson.

Shannon Mahoney, 20, allegedly started a fire on his kitchen stove, officials said. He had barricaded himself in his home when police arrived Monday afternoon.

After several hours of negotiations, police placed him in protective custody about 7:30 p.m. He was treated at Wilcox Hospital for self-inflicted injuries and taken to the police cellblock.
