15 on Big Island arrested on suspicion of DUI

During the period of Jan. 20-26, Big Island police arrested 15 motorists for drunk driving. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash.

So far this year, there have been 74 DUI arrests compared with 87 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15 percent.

There have been 103 major accidents so far in 2009 compared with 146 during the same period last year, a decrease of 29.5 percent.

So far this year, there were two traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with one during the same period last year.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
