New Mexico State tops UH in men's hoops

Jamar Young scored 25 points and New Mexico State beat Hawai'i, 82-72, tonight in Western Athletic Conference men's basketball at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces, N.M.

The Rainbow Warriors (10-11 overall, 2-7 WAC) pulled to within 44-39 with 14:41 left in the half, but Gordo Castillo hit back-to-back 3-pointers — he was 4 of 4 from that range — to pull the Aggies (11-11, 5-4) away.

Roderick Flemings led all scorers with 27 points for UH. Bill Amis added 18 for the Rainbow Warriors.

Hawai'i shot 38.6 percent from the field and was 3 of 16 from 3-point range. The Aggies shot 8 of 14 3-pointers.
