Bus service expanded now that TheBoat has stopped

Advertiser Staff

TheBoat made its last voyage yesterday, so the city is expanding bus service for Leeward Coast residents.

Starting today, there will be two additional morning Route 93 trips from Makaha to Downtown Honolulu, departing Makaha at 5:18 and 5:46 a.m.

For Kapolei residents, a new express — Route 94 from Kapolei/Kaupea to Downtown and the University of Hawai'i-Manoa — will be added.

Express Route 94 departs Kapolei at 5:40 and 6 a.m. It leaves UH-Manoa at 3:25 and 5:05 p.m.

The city shut down the commuter boat service between Kalaeloa and Aloha Tower after nearly two years of service. The project cost $5 million a year and served an average of 270 passengers per day, and was discontinued as a cost-cutting move.
