Police reclassify Puna woman's death as a homicide

Police on the Big Island of Hawaiçi say a 21-year-old woman who was found dead in her Orchidland Estates home was murdered and have reclassified her death as a homicide, following the results of an autopsy.

The woman, Kaycee Smith, lived alone in her home and was found by a friend dead of a gunshot wound Tuesday at 8:50 a.m.
Following an autopsy today, the coroner's office has determined that the manner of Smith's death was homicide.
Police ask that anyone with information about this case call police Lt. Mitchell Kanehailua at 961-2252. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
