Advertiser Staff

A 64-year-old man died after he was pulled unconscious from waters off Kapoho Vacationland on the Big Island yesterday morning.

Hawai'i County police identified the man as Hamilton Manley of Kurtistown.

Fire rescue crews were sent to the area near the Waiopae Tidepools about 9:42 a.m. yesterday. When they got there, the victim had already been brought to shore and bystanders were performing CPR.

A witness said the swimmer got into trouble about 10 minutes after going snorkeling. The witness and a bystander swam to the struggling swimmer and brought him to shore.

Manley was taken to Hilo Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at about 11 a.m., police said.

Police do not suspect foul play. An autopsy will be done to determine the cause of death.
