Holiday weekend weather: Mostly cloudy

Trade winds will gradually increase across the islands today and through the weekend as an area of high pressure strengthens to our north, the National Weather Service said.

Clouds and showers will favor windward and mauka areas, with only light total rainfall amounts expected, according to the forecast.

Here’s how the weekend is shaping up:

Today: Scattered showers, mainly after noon. Partly cloudy, with a high near 84. East wind between 11 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tonight: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. East wind between 11 and 14 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Independence Day: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 85. East wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday Night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. East wind between 11 and 14 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Sunday: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 86. East wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Sunday Night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. East wind between 11 and 14 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
