Orchidland Estates death reclassified as homicide

Big Island police said a 21-year-old woman who was found dead in her Orchidland Estates home was murdered and have reclassified her death as a homicide, following the results of an autopsy.

The woman, Kaycee Smith, lived alone in her home and was found by a friend dead of a gunshot wound Tuesday at 8:50 a.m.

Following an autopsy, the county coroner's office determined that Smith's death was homicide.

Police ask that anyone with information about the case to call police Lt. Mitchell Kanehailua at 961-2252. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
