In the movies, automobiles that transform into robots may save the planet, but here in the real world, it takes a living, breathing gearhead.

In Hawaiçi, bikers are transforming the Kapaça Quarry Industrial Complex into the venue for the “Prostreet Gearhead Classic II,” for tomorrow’s fundraiser benefiting special-needs children and Therapeutic Horsemanship of Hawaii. The family day will feature motorcycles, cars, live music, a roller derby, rock crawling, pony rides, petting zoo, games and food. General admission is $20, free for kids under 10.
The event follows the Axl Gearhead Classic, put together by Mark Deacon to help his grandson Axl with a needed operation. The event was a success, so Deacon decided to go annual and help more kids. This year he partnered with motorcycle enthusiast Dana Vennen, executive director of Therapeutic Horsemanship.
This year’s event will provide six-week scholarships for special-needs kids and children of military people who have been deployed, letting them ride at Therapeutic Horsemanship.
Tomorrow’s event is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. To learn more, call 342-9036.
