It took six hours, but firefighters on Kauai have managed to partially contain a brush fire on Kokee.

The fire broke out on state land along Makaha Ridge Road around 2:26 p.m., Kauai County officials said in a news release.
“As of 8:30 pm, the Kokee brush fire is about 75 percent contained,” said Kauai Fire Chief Robert Westerman, adding that an estimated 10 acres of the forest have burned so far.
Eighteen county firefighters and two firefighters from the Pacific Missile Range Facility Crash Fire unit had been fighting the brushfire since early yesterday afternoon. They were joined later by five state Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife personnel.
