Hawaiian Airlines said it flew nearly 10,000 more passengers in June than in the same month a year earlier.

The state's largest carrier said its passenger count totaled 704,343 last month, a 1.4 percent increase from June 2008's 694,348.

The airline said its planes operated 85 percent full in June, which was 3.5 percentage points higher than the year-earlier's 81.5 percent.

AD FIRM LOOKING TO HELP NONPROFIT

Local advertising firm Ad 2 Honolulu is accepting applications from nonprofit organizations that are seeking a free public awareness campaign this year.

The selected organization will receive a yearlong campaign that includes marketing, public relations and advertising on television, on radio and in print. The value of the campaign is estimated at $1 million.

CESSPOOL FINE FOR BIG ISLE COMPANY

Federal authorities say a Big Island company has agreed to pay $82,000 for failing to close large capacity cesspools in Hilo.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said yesterday that K. Taniguchi Ltd. has also agreed to close all the large-capacity cesspools they own and operate at 50 E. Puianako St.

The cesspools will be replaced by wastewater systems.

Federal regulations have prohibited large-capacity cesspools since April 2005. The regulations don't apply to single-family homes connected to their own individual cesspools.

UHA HAS 2 NEW ONLINE SERVICES

UHA, Hawai'i's third-largest commercial health insurer, has launched two new online services.

The insurer's new online enrollment program features secured access and eliminates the problem of lost or incomplete forms, UHA said in a news release.

The program is being phased in beginning with employer groups of 50 or more employees. The program also includes simplified member eligibility verification, UHA said.

Founded in 1996 by a group of physician teachers at the University of Hawai'i John A Burns School of Medicine, UHA provides medical, drug and vision plans to Hawai'i employer groups.
