Water main repairs to continue through the night on Farrington Highway

Advertiser Staff

Board of Water Supply crews hope to complete repairs on a 24-inch water main at 87-2070 Farrington Highway between Lualualei Naval Road and Nanaikeola Street by tonight and have the roadway reopened by tomorrow morning.

If BWS crews are unable to complete the repair work tonight, they will repair the road and reopen Farrington Highway tomorrow morning. In the meantime, Farrington Highway remains closed to traffic since the break occurred 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Westbound traffic is being diverted to Helelua Street to Lualualei Naval Road and eastbound traffic is being diverted to a parallel dirt road on the makai side of the highway.
The BWS is asking all Leeward Coast residents from Honokai Hale to Makaha to use water sparingly as crews work to repair the main and restore the water system. Water should be used only for cooking, drinking and personal hygiene. Residents should refrain from doing laundry, watering lawns or washing cars at this time.
Currently no homes are without water, BWS said.
"The traffic coming into the area is really bad because there's only one road coming in," said Mokihana Abaro, a Sack N Save office clerk. "We've been really slow."
