1 man killed, another injured in pre-dawn 1-vehicle crash

One man was killed and another injured yesterday morning in a one-vehicle accident near the Waimea Country Club golf course on the Big Island, fire officials said.

The accident was reported at 5:26 a.m. Police identified the man who died as Albert Laurdin, 24, of Kea'au. Another man, 22, whose identity was not released, was in stable condition, police said.

Officials said the car was traveling on Highway 19, on the Waimea side of the country club, when it went into a pasture, traveled about 40 yards and rolled over.

Both people in the vehicle were ejected, the fire department said.

Laurdin was found about 30 feet from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other man was found about 20 feet from the vehicle and was taken to North Hawai'i Community Hospital.

The vehicle was badly damaged, officials said.
