Advertiser Staff

Hawaiian Airlines will be the title sponsor of what will become the inaugural Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, it was announced today.

The eight-team men's basketball tournament will debut Dec. 22 at the Stan Sheriff Center with the University of Hawaii as host.
Terms of the three-year agreement were not disclosed beyond the announcement that Hawaiian will provide “transportation and marketing support” for the tournament.
“We're thrilled to partner with Hawaiian Airlines (and) this event will feature 25 hours of live programming on the ESPN networks from Hawaii over the holidays,” said David A. K. Matlin, executive director of the tournament.
In addition to UH, the tournament field includes Southern California, Nevada-Las Vegas, Southern Methodist, College of Charleston, Western Michigan, Northeastern and St. Mary’s.
The tournament, which is owned and operated by ESPN Regional Television, will run Dec. 22, 23 and 25. The 24th is for the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl, another ERT property.
