Two drivers injured in crash on Kauai's Kuhio Highway

Advertiser Staff

A 54-year-old man suffered serious injuries and a 64-year-old woman received injuries that were not life-threatening in a head-on collision on the Kuhio Highway yesterday morning.

The man was driving a Honda Civic northbound near the Kaua'i Community Correctional Center when the car's left rear tire blew out, which may have caused his vehicle to cross the center line and collide with an oncoming Nissan Altima driven by the woman about 11 a.m., police said.

The man and the woman, both of Kapa'a, were in Wilcox Hospital last night. An 11-year-old girl in the Nissan was treated at Wilcox Hospital and released.

There were no passengers in the Honda, police said.

Seat belts were worn by all involved.

Police closed Kuhio Highway in Wailua and diverted traffic to the Wailua bypass road and Wailua Golf Course utility road. The highway was reopened at 1:55 p.m.
