Tony McInerny, a 1987 Punahou School graduate and longtime high school coach in Hawai'i, will join the University of Hawai'i men's volleyball staff as a volunteer assistant coach.

McInerny, who started at setter at San Diego State, has coached at Punahou, Kaimuki High, University High and LaPietra School in various capacities.

In addition, he is an active member of Outrigger Canoe Club, where he played on the men's open team for 10 years and coached boys 14s, 16s, and 18s teams.

"Tony understands the game of volleyball, he's been around it nearly his entire life," said UH head coach Charlie Wade. "He's played it on the high school, collegiate, club, and professional levels ... and coached girls and boys high school and club teams. He comes from a legendary volleyball family in the state of Hawai'i, which is well-respected in the volleyball community."
