The event is scheduled to start today at the Blaisdell Center with an open viewing of items from noon to 6 p.m.

It will continue tomorrow starting at 10 a.m. The main auction is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. tomorrow.

A "foam sandwich" surfboard owned by former "Gunsmoke" actor James Arness is expected to be one of the most popular items, and is expected to sell for at least $25,000.

Several former surfing champions are expected to attend the event, including Greg Noll, Buffalo Keaulana, Fred Hemmings, Mark Richards and Tom Carroll.

There will also be a free appraisal session for people who might want to assess the values of their surfing-related items. People interested need to bring their items to the Blaisdell between noon and 4 p.m. today.

T&C SURF IS TOP SURF SHOP AT KEWALOS

T&C Surf won the Oakley Surf Shop Challenge last weekend at Kewalo Basin.

The one-day event featured competition between eight surf shops from around the state. Each team could use two sponsored surfers and two shop employees.

The T&C Surf team featured sponsored surfers Dustin Cuizon and Geoff Wong, and shop employees Gareth Sugihara and Travis Hashimoto.

The T&C team received a trip to Huntington Beach, Calif., to compete for the national surf shop championship in September.

Cuizon, who is considered one of Hawai'i's top young professional surfers, was the top point-scorer for T&C.

Quiksilver Boardriders placed second, and Blue Hawai'i Surf was third.
